The Rosendale Theatre is hosting an upcoming event to reflect on a simpler time in our nation’s history.

“Tales of the Hudson Valley,” which will take place October 1, will feature a theatrical adaptation of the works of Washington Irving, America’s first man of letters. The performance will include portions of Irving’s popular stories and characters, including Rip van Winkle, Ichabod Crane and many others.

“The works of Washington Irving are national treasures and are part of the rich history and culture we enjoy here in the Hudson Valley,” said County Executive Mike Hein. “This unique and fun theatrical performance puts a new twist on Irving’s works. We are excited that the Rosendale Theatre is holding such a great event.”

Local theatrical contributor Ann Citron directs the performance, which has been adapted from Irving’s writing by playwright Edward Versailles. It’s known as a highly entertaining, humorous and insightful performance, and three actors play a total of 22 different characters throughout the three acts. The cast includes Jim Metzger, Virginia Ferri, and Douglas Motel and music/sound effects by Fre Atlast. The Rosendale Theatre is a nonprofit cooperative that hosts a wide range of performances throughout the year.

“Tales of the Hudson Valley” is a special matinee presentation for older adults, with tickets priced at $10 for senior citizens 65 years and older. General admission is $12 each and $6 for children 12 and under. There is also a 10 percent discount available for parties of 10 or more.

“This project is the beta version for something that we want to create into an annual event,” said Edward Schoelwer, theater board member and programming chair. “It is meant to expand our literary, historical and cultural heritages for ourselves and tourists.”

The theatrical event will take place Wednesday, October 1 at 11 a.m. at the Rosendale Theatre, located at 408 Main St., Rosendale. Seating begins at 10:15 a.m. For more information, call the Rosendale Theatre at 845-658-8989 or email.
